Overview

Granta Automation approached us to develop a collaborative robotic (Cobot) palletising solution suitable for compact shopfloors and 24/7 usage. The system needed to accommodate multiple packaging types while ensuring operator safety, flexibility, and rapid deployment.

Challenges

  • Ensuring the design fits into a confined space with enough room for a collaborative robot, safety enclosures, and pallet loading.

  • Compatibility with various product shapes and weights (boxes, trays, etc.).

  • Integration of control panels and sensors without interfering with robot arm movement.

  • Designing for both standard forklifts and pallet trucks.

Our Solution

Using SolidWorks, our design team:

  • Created a modular layout allowing fast assembly and reconfiguration.

  • Designed custom gripper toolpaths and pallet stacking logic to simulate performance pre-build.

  • Integrated safety fencing, conveyor systems, and operator access points.

  • Developed detailed manufacturing drawings and a full BoM (Bill of Materials) for the entire setup.

Results

  • Successful deployment of the Cobot Palletiser on the client’s shop floor.

  • Reduced client setup time and space usage by over 30%.

  • Improved handling of mixed-load products.

  • The client was able to replicate the design across multiple production lines with minor tweaks.
