Overview
Granta Automation approached us to develop a collaborative robotic (Cobot) palletising solution suitable for compact shopfloors and 24/7 usage. The system needed to accommodate multiple packaging types while ensuring operator safety, flexibility, and rapid deployment.
Challenges
-
Ensuring the design fits into a confined space with enough room for a collaborative robot, safety enclosures, and pallet loading.
-
Compatibility with various product shapes and weights (boxes, trays, etc.).
-
Integration of control panels and sensors without interfering with robot arm movement.
-
Designing for both standard forklifts and pallet trucks.
Our Solution
Using SolidWorks, our design team:
-
Created a modular layout allowing fast assembly and reconfiguration.
-
Designed custom gripper toolpaths and pallet stacking logic to simulate performance pre-build.
-
Integrated safety fencing, conveyor systems, and operator access points.
-
Developed detailed manufacturing drawings and a full BoM (Bill of Materials) for the entire setup.
Results
-
Successful deployment of the Cobot Palletiser on the client’s shop floor.
-
Reduced client setup time and space usage by over 30%.
-
Improved handling of mixed-load products.
-
The client was able to replicate the design across multiple production lines with minor tweaks.
